• Choose Subtle Color
Choose soft shades and a restful palette of monochromatic tones instead of bold primary colours. Color theory says the soft blue, lavender, or green hues are relaxing and soothing. Rich jewel tones tend to create a sense of cosiness and relaxation. Toasted browns, deep pomegranate, and topaz are some of the examples. In the bedroom, use subdued versions of your favourite colours.” That may mean substituting mauve for eggplant or pumpkin for tangerine.
• Don’t Overlook the Ceiling
The roof is a room’s fifth wall. Can you see a boring, blank surface while you lay in bed? Use a soft colour or a discreet pattern. Paint the roof a brighter shade with the shade of the walls. This would visually lower the ceiling and give the room a more intimate and relaxed feel.
Other alternatives include using a decorative paint treatment, stencilling or wallpapering the ceiling and incorporating design features such as beams or mouldings. Silver-leafed bedroom ceilings, a canopy or tented bed with a dressing that hangs from the ceiling, will engulf you in sensuality and comfort while adding texture, style, and colour to the ceiling. Color, pattern, and texture can be added to the “fifth wall” above you with a moulded medallion and a chandelier of crystal or delicate shades.
• Keep the Bedroom Simple
Regardless of the decorating theme you pick, a bedroom should look comfortable, simple, sleek, and elegant. Allow at least three feet between the bed and side walls or large pieces of furniture for ease of mobility, and at least two feet between the bed and low furniture such as tables and dressers. Consider if you can shift the bed if you need to step around it to get from the closet to the toilet.
Just have what you need in your apartment. A bed, one or two bedside tables, a dresser, and a chair are all required. Anything else is a waste of space. Place a chest of drawers in the closet if space is available.
The number of accessories should be limited to a bare minimum. Choose a lovely piece of art, place some family pictures on top, add flowers and candles, and then leave it alone.
• Choose the Right Size Furniture
Start with a floor plan and a calculated sketch of the space when you’re about to purchase the bedroom furniture. Furniture should compliment the space in which it is put, and this is especially important for bedroom furniture. For a small bedroom, avoid a heavy, large bed and dresser. A tall headboard can help to visually reduce the ceiling down to scale if it is high.
Choose furniture that suits your bedroom if it is huge. Place a chair and ottoman at the foot of the bed, or another piece of furniture. In a big space, furniture and accessories that are too small will look out of place.
• Include a Private Nook
Give yourself a special present by seeking a peaceful spot to read. With a comfortable chair and footstool at the end of your bed or in a corner, you can create an intimate reading or lounging space. Create a window seat under the bedroom window if you have the space. Take in the scenery and the natural sun.
• Indulge in Luxurious Linens
Beautiful and elegant fabrics should be used to decorate your bedroom. Beautiful linens bring warmth to a bedroom like nothing else. Buy only sheets made of 100 percent cotton or linen with a thread count of 350 or higher. Send your sheets to the dry cleaner for professional cleaning and pressing for sheets that sound like they come from a 5-star hotel. It won’t cost you much, but it will give them a crisp smoothness worthy of the Ritz.
With a soft mohair or cashmere throw on the arm of a reading chair, silk or textured wall coverings, silk draperies or a silk bed canopy, or fluffy floor coverings, incorporate other sensual feeling fabrics in the bedroom.
