Signs Your Roommate Doesn’t Like You

It’s difficult to live with anyone else. This doesn’t matter if it’s a roommate you met online, a partner, a spouse, or another freshman in the dormitories. It’s just like any other relationship. And, like any other relationship, some aren’t intended to last. It’s usually hoped that you’ll discuss and iron out any issues before it gets to this point, but that doesn’t always happen. By the conclusion of a relationship, it is possible for it to become poisonous. And it’s tough for both people involved when this happens. Here are several telltale signals that your roommate dislikes you.

  1. Communication is cut off

This is one of the most obvious signals that your roommate dislikes you. When you and your partner cease talking, or even worse, when all contact is limited to a brief text message or a sticky note on the fridge, it’s a sign that your relationship is either dead or dying.

  1. What a disaster!

If you share a house, you must share the duties of keeping it up. It is sometimes necessary to maintain the water heater. However, it always entails maintaining your house nice and tidy. A cluttered workstation is one thing (and even the indication of a genius!). And you may overlook a sloppy room. But not so much when that clutter spills over into your common area, such as the bathrooms, living room, or, worse, the kitchen. Maintain the cleanliness of your kitchens!

  1. Who ate my creamy all-natural almond butter?

Is your roommate stealing your food, deleting your DVR episodes, or even dressing in your clothing without your permission? Talk it out before they erase all the “Say Yes To The Dress” replays you’ve been hoarding on a rainy Sunday.

  1. The invisible roommate

If your roommate is never present, it might signify one of two things: they have a busy and full life and aren’t home often, or they’re not home much because they purposefully avoid you.

  1. They stick to the path.

Can your roommate follow the trail of turmoil and mess you leave behind? Shoes by the entrance, clothing on the sofa, dirty pots and pans on the stove, and a cluttered bathroom all contribute to one agitated roommate.

  1. Is it the first already?

You must pay your portion of the rent on time. Each month. There are no exceptions. Inform your roommate as soon as possible if you will fall short, or if you will want assistance in paying your part. Waiting till the last minute, or worse, bailing out entirely, is how you turn a roommate into an ex-roommate.

  1. Do you smell that?

When was the last time it was “your turn” to take out the trash? You’re not going to win any popularity contests if you’re trampling on the garbage while attempting to pack it down.

  1. That appears to be enjoyable… I suppose

Nobody expects you to share all of your hobbies. You could have some things in common. That’s why you’re living together in the first place. But dismissing someone’s interests or mocking their favorite reality programme is just a rude move.

  1. Overnight guests

Nobody says you can’t have a partner over for the night, but if your significant other is over a lot (like A LOT), be discreet and considerate. Being kept awake all night by the headboard slamming against your shared wall isn’t going to make you popular.

  1. Oh, did I wake you up?

Just because you “don’t get sleepy till late” doesn’t imply everyone else in your house has to. It’s perfectly OK if one of you is a night owl while the other is an early riser. But turning on the lights and turning on the TV at 3 a.m. on a Wednesday isn’t cool.

How to Deal with Roommate Issues

If you see indicators that your roommate dislikes you, attempt to resolve the situation quietly and politely. Roommates will argue and aggravate one another. It’s unavoidable in any dynamic. And no one is requiring you to be best buddies. Most of us weren’t that fortunate in the freshmen dormitories. But it doesn’t mean you can’t find some common ground… such as having a tranquil house, watching horrible reality TV, and not putting dirty dishes in the sink overnight.
